Your First Session

What to expect when
we first meet.

Starting therapy can feel uncertain. Here is exactly what happens before, during, and after your first session, so you know what you are walking into.

Before the session

Booking &
confirmation

You can book a free 15-minute consultation or a full session directly through the booking page. After you book, you will receive a confirmation email with the appointment time and a secure telehealth link.

If you have not had a chance to share much about what brings you in, that is fine. You can write it in the booking notes, or we will cover it together at the start of the session.

Setting up

Telehealth
tech & space

  • Device: Laptop, tablet, or phone with a working camera and microphone. Laptop or tablet usually feels more comfortable.
  • Internet: A reasonably stable connection. If video glitches, we can switch to audio-only without losing the session.
  • Quiet space: Somewhere you will not be interrupted and feel free to speak openly. Headphones help.
  • Browser: Use Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge. The telehealth link works in your browser, no app to install.
  • If something breaks: Reply to the confirmation email or call (561) 363-7542 and we will figure it out.

During the session

How June
actually works

The first session is mostly about getting to know each other. June will ask about what is bringing you in, a bit about your history, and what you are hoping therapy can help with. There is no script you have to follow.

You can share as much or as little as feels right. Some people arrive with a lot to say. Others need a few minutes to settle in. Both are normal.

Toward the end, June will share some initial thoughts on what working together might look like, ask if you have questions, and either confirm a regular cadence or give you space to think about it.

Privacy

Confidentiality
and its limits

What you share in session is confidential under Florida law and HIPAA. There are a few legal exceptions June is required to tell you about up front:

  • Imminent risk of harm to yourself or others
  • Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult
  • A court order requiring disclosure

Outside of those, your sessions stay between you and June. Notes are kept in a HIPAA-compliant electronic health record, not on this website.

After the session

Cadence &
next steps

Most clients meet weekly to start. As things settle, that often shifts to every other week, then monthly maintenance. There is no obligation to continue if it is not the right fit.

You will get a calendar invitation for any sessions you book ahead of time. If you ever need to reschedule, just reply to the confirmation email or call ahead.

Common questions

Things people
often ask

  • Do I need to prepare? No. Just show up. If you want, jot down a few things you would like to talk about.
  • Can I bring notes? Absolutely. Many people do.
  • What if I get emotional? That is welcome here. Tissues are nearby and we can pause whenever you need.
  • What if I do not know what to say? June will ask gentle, open questions. You do not have to lead.
  • What if June is not the right fit? That is OK. Therapy works best when there is a match. June is happy to recommend other providers if needed.
